Nails Inc Leather and Skulls Swatches and Review

Have you noticed that "textured nails" are trending now?  Major brands like OPI and Zoya are coming out with these polishes, which give you a sandy and gritty like texture.  Nails Inc has also released their version of textured nail polish, aka Bling It On Leather and Skulls.  I grabbed a set at Selfridges (£19) just a few days ago and can't wait to share with you.

The set comes with a bottle of Leather Polish, 4 pieces of crystal skull embellishments which you can re-use, glue and orange stick.  Two colours are currently available.  I picked the black one which I think is the most sought after but the tan version which comes with gold embellishments is equally cool!

The polish applies glossy but dries to a semi-matte textured look.  It is a bit sandy and gritty to touch.  It does look like leather from afar but of course lacking the softness to touch.  The polish is very 'pigmented' and you probably can get full coverage in one coat, though I applied two coats out of practice.  No base or top coat.

I like this concept a lot as my nails look edgy and cool!  One thing though, the skull embellishment is much larger than I thought.  Although I preferred to put it on the ring finger, it was just huge and out of proportion. So in the end I have to put it on the thumb like their advertised photo.

What do you think of it? Do let me know!

The Leather and Skull Effect Set is available at Nails Inc website as well as Littlewoods.

  1. That actually looks interesting! I though it will be just like a satin finish or something but this looks more like the OPI liquid sand

  2. I read that this one was a major sell out in daily mail a couple of days ago! I thought it would be a matte or satin texture, but these pictures show otherwise, quite fancy this now

  3. Unlike OPIs liquid sand, I like this look. I actually made and threw away a bottle of similar stuff. It didn't look this good.

  4. I wasn't sure of the concept but it actually looks really cool, like leather as they suggest :)

  5. I really don't like the end result. It looks like really bubbled up or smudged nail polish. I'm glad that you reviewed it though! Always great to see a polish swatch before you buy it :)

  11. I was tempted when I saw this on the nails inc website, but I think it on of those polishes that will only look good on perfect nails - it's not for me.

  12. I really like this look - I am so far not a huge fan of the sand like textures - a tish too gritty for me or some of them just look like asphalt on the nails - this is classy and I think Nails Inc really got it right - this looks a lot like someone put faux leather appliques over the nails. Not sure I will get it as it would end up being one I would wear maybe 3 times and then it would go to that place those polishes go to die in my stash until I weed em out. I like the skull - saw there was a gold version of this - but think it was not the skull - I kind of think I would loose the skull in that first day I put it on. I also wonder if I might not be able to create this look with a semi matte black and saran wrap? I bet mine would come out close enough to this look doing that - maybe not as refined but if I only wore it 3 times I would have saved the $.

  14. I saw this in Grazia recently, but they didn't give a close-up like you've done. It's not for me I'm afraid, I am a true glitter magpie!!! I am well jel of your nails though, they look great throughout (I work in catering at the moment, so little chance of posh manicured nails unfortunately....not for long tho!!)

I'm super pleased to have found your blog. Would you like to pay a visit to mine? http://thislittlepretty.blogspot.com
