OPI Black Spotted Swatches and Review

Hi Lovelies! Have you spotted the OPI Black Spotted yet? It's an amazing effect polish, part of the Spiderman Collection exclusive for Sephora France.  It works like the traditional crackle polish, but instead of crackling, it forms spots on your nails.  Pretty awesome and way more interesting than the crackles!

Formula of Black Spotted was much thinner than anticipated.  It was actually quite watery.  It's like brushing oil over a heated pan, if that makes sense!  It was also easier to work with than the traditional crackle polish.

My first attempt with the Black Spotted was to paint it over an ivory base (American Apparel Cotton, 2 coats).

As you may have already known, thin coats of Black Spotted will create smaller and more spots on the nails.   Thicker coats will give you bigger and less spots.  A thicker coat was applied on my index finger so you can see there weren't many spots.
Also, it has to be applied over completely dry nail polish, otherwise cracks will be formed.  You can see from my pics that there were indeed little cracks here and there.  So apparently, I wasn't patient enough although I did apply a layer of Seche Vite top coat beforehand.

Then I dug into my used nail wheels and found one which I have swatched a bunch of neons from a Colour Club set I got from T.K. Maxx awhile back.  I can confirm that OPI Black Spotted looks incredibly gorgeous over neons.

This morning, we have a glimpse of sunshine and it inspired me a different layer combo.  I have Layla Ultra Violet, a purple hologram as the base.  The combo is seriously amazing!

As of now, OPI Black Spotted is not available in the UK nor the US.  I purchased my bottle from Sephora France, which retails at 13.90 euros.  Shipping to the UK costs 15.90 euros by UPS; mine arrived in 4 working days.  It's a splurge but considering how unique it looks, it's totally worth it, at least I am that convinced ^ ^

  1. Honestly I really don't like it :( I really hated crackle and this is just as bad for me, sorry! But it does look cool over the neons I guess. Lol can't like everything :)

    1. "Can't like everything", that is so true, so no apologies needed! Everyone appreciates aesthetics differently, fair enough! Appreciate your honesty though :)

  3. That is such a weird polish. I have no idea what to think of it. I like it over the holo, but I just don't know. Very different, and thank you for posting swatches! I heard about this polish, and I was intrigued, but now I'm just confused lol. Is nail polish supposed you confuse you? I don't know lol. I don't think there's anything like it.

I heard that this was supposed to replace the shatter in the Spiderman Collection in Europe or France (not sure which). I don't think we'll get it over here. Don't quote me on that!

  6. Hm... I dunno either. It kinda looks like you attempted some nail art that failed miserably.

  8. Looks amazing over the neons!
I read that it's not likely to be release here (UK) or in the US or anywhere else for that matter, which sucks.
And looks like it's sold out on the Sephora site you linked :( But thanks for the tip anyway.

  9. I like how it looks over the neons and the holo.. super cool, its different than just crakle/shatter etc etc.. but I am not too crazy about it and its probably a good thing bc I can't get it here anyways LOL

  10. This is such a neat idea! Making it matte with a matte topcoat would look interesting as well.

  11. Black Spotted really does look great over the neons. I probably won't be buying it for myself. My bottle of black shatter has been undisturbed for a good 10 months and I know I'll do the same thing if I buy Black Spotted. When these unique polishes come out I'll use it all the time for a few weeks, but it gets old quickly in my book. I still have friends who rock the black shatter all the time though.

    1. It sure is. I managed to find it at a Sephora here in Holland today. Most of the Sephoras are sold out of it now though.

  15. I love this! But why, oh why, they sell it only in France...? But luckily my friend is travelling to France, and she will buy it for me, if she finds it! :D (I'm from Finland, so English isn't my strongest language)

  16. Let's hope that OPI is using France as "test subjects" for this new look to get an idea on the feedback before they roll it out worldwide. :) I think this look is really unique. I saw a really awesome mani on Polish Ninja with it. She used the Color Club Take Wing (?) collection to do like a patchwork look on her nails and then applied Black Spotted over it. It looked really cool. Here's the link, if that's ok.

If it's not ok, I'm sorry! Feel free to delete it and scold me. :)
