Hi Lovelies! Have you spotted the OPI Black Spotted yet? It's an amazing effect polish, part of the Spiderman Collection exclusive for Sephora France. It works like the traditional crackle polish, but instead of crackling, it forms spots on your nails. Pretty awesome and way more interesting than the crackles!
Formula of Black Spotted was much thinner than anticipated. It was actually quite watery. It's like brushing oil over a heated pan, if that makes sense! It was also easier to work with than the traditional crackle polish.
My first attempt with the Black Spotted was to paint it over an ivory base (American Apparel Cotton, 2 coats).
As you may have already known, thin coats of Black Spotted will create smaller and more spots on the nails. Thicker coats will give you bigger and less spots. A thicker coat was applied on my index finger so you can see there weren't many spots.
Also, it has to be applied over completely dry nail polish, otherwise cracks will be formed. You can see from my pics that there were indeed little cracks here and there. So apparently, I wasn't patient enough although I did apply a layer of Seche Vite top coat beforehand.
Then I dug into my used nail wheels and found one which I have swatched a bunch of neons from a Colour Club set I got from T.K. Maxx awhile back. I can confirm that OPI Black Spotted looks incredibly gorgeous over neons.
This morning, we have a glimpse of sunshine and it inspired me a different layer combo. I have Layla Ultra Violet, a purple hologram as the base. The combo is seriously amazing!
As of now, OPI Black Spotted is not available in the UK nor the US. I purchased my bottle from Sephora France, which retails at 13.90 euros. Shipping to the UK costs 15.90 euros by UPS; mine arrived in 4 working days. It's a splurge but considering how unique it looks, it's totally worth it, at least I am that convinced ^ ^
