China Glaze Prism Swatch & Review - Prismatic Chroma Glitter Collection 2012 (Pic heavy!)

The other day when I was browsing my favourite eBay stores, I stumbled across a bottle of China Glaze Prism, from the Prismatic Chroma Glitter Collection for Spring 2012.  I supposed the collection was to be released not until March.  I was so thrilled that I immediately bought it without checking the availability of other shades or if there's any cheaper ones.  Needless to say, I experienced buyer remorse after I knew the collection was in fact quite readily available on eBay and Amazon.

Anyway, I was still very excited when it arrived the next day. So let's see the swatches...

3 x coats of CG Prism + 1 x top coat

Prism is NOT a holo polish.  From earlier promo material I saw on the web, I thought it was a holo polish and that's why I was so thrilled and looking forward to its release.  But no, it's definitely not holographic.  It is densely packed with a mix of ultra-fine silver and pinky purple glitter and larger hexagonal mulit-colored glitter.  Prism does give a duochrome finish.

It was really difficult to capture its color since it is densely packed with silver and fuchsia purple micro-glitters which are extremely reflective. You can see its duochrome finish at certain angle.

I then tried some layering experiment using China Glaze Spontaneous and Zoya Caitlin as the base color.

I think Zoya Caitlin, which is more greyish, brings out the silver tone of Prism while CG Spontaneous does a better job in highlighting the purple tone.  But if looking from afar, there's not a huge difference as Prism itself is so heavily packed with glitter.

Final thoughts: Honestly I was a bit disappointed that Prism is not a holographic polish but to be fair, it's a mesmerizing glittzy polish in its own right.  I also love the combination of bigger multi-colored glitter and its duochrome finish.  Another complaint would be the fact that I bought it at a much higher price tag!!

  1. I just cannot decide if I should get this collection! If I do not get it will I regret it at a later date? Oh the decisions! Thanks for the swatch. One of the most decent ones around at the moment.

    1. Thanks for the sweet comment!! And oh... I understand the struggle, to buy or not to buy... for me, I definitely won't buy the whole collection because as a whole, they all look quite similar for having a very strong reflective silver base. Hope you can have your decision soon ^^

  3. Yes it's just that it has holo glitter but isn't a holo for real. I miss holo nail polishes there aren't so many as good and cheap as the CG kaleidoscope collection. I could buy tons of them but find none that I like. I find nubars Prism collection to be barely holo for real. Thanks for the swatches. :)

    1. Yes, it's a very dense glittery polish and the kaleidoscope collection is so on my wishlist, but $$$$ on ebay. I just don't want to shell out yet!

  4. I love how you tried different colours for the base. It really seems to make a difference. Btw you are so good at capturing the depth of the glitter through pictures.

Here's what I had to say about Prism: http://chippednailblog.blogspot.ca/
