The other day when I was browsing my favourite eBay stores, I stumbled across a bottle of China Glaze Prism, from the Prismatic Chroma Glitter Collection for Spring 2012. I supposed the collection was to be released not until March. I was so thrilled that I immediately bought it without checking the availability of other shades or if there's any cheaper ones. Needless to say, I experienced buyer remorse after I knew the collection was in fact quite readily available on eBay and Amazon.
Anyway, I was still very excited when it arrived the next day. So let's see the swatches...
3 x coats of CG Prism + 1 x top coat
Prism is NOT a holo polish. From earlier promo material I saw on the web, I thought it was a holo polish and that's why I was so thrilled and looking forward to its release. But no, it's definitely not holographic. It is densely packed with a mix of ultra-fine silver and pinky purple glitter and larger hexagonal mulit-colored glitter. Prism does give a duochrome finish.
Prism x 1 coat
Prism x 2 coats
Prism x 3 coats
It was really difficult to capture its color since it is densely packed with silver and fuchsia purple micro-glitters which are extremely reflective. You can see its duochrome finish at certain angle.
I then tried some layering experiment using China Glaze Spontaneous and Zoya Caitlin as the base color.
I think Zoya Caitlin, which is more greyish, brings out the silver tone of Prism while CG Spontaneous does a better job in highlighting the purple tone. But if looking from afar, there's not a huge difference as Prism itself is so heavily packed with glitter.
Final thoughts: Honestly I was a bit disappointed that Prism is not a holographic polish but to be fair, it's a mesmerizing glittzy polish in its own right. I also love the combination of bigger multi-colored glitter and its duochrome finish. Another complaint would be the fact that I bought it at a much higher price tag!!
